Hijablicious in NYC

By Samia — December 09, 2014

8It’s been over a week since I got back from New York, and whilst suffering from the most horrific jetlag, I have also been catching up with a flooded inbox at work, as well as scheduling meetings. But now, I am hoping it is back to business with the blog!

New York was great. I was fortunate enough to combine the trip with blog meetings and meet some fantastic new people, as well as spending some quality time with good friends from the UK. Being there in the festive period was perfect to soak in the atmosphere, despite the cold!

We stayed at the Carlton Hotel in Madison Square, Central Manhattan. It was the perfect location as we were just a walk away from Empire State Building, around the corner from 5th Avenue and a 10 minute cab ride to Central Park. One thing I didn’t realise was just how cold it would be, sure London is cold but New York is freezing during Nov/Dec so wise to take lots and lots of layers.

I met up with the beautiful and talented Sadeel Allam from ‘The Demureist’ (NY based blogger – check her awesome blog out here).  She showed me all the hotspots that New York has to offer, specifically Brooklyn. I much preferred Brooklyn to Manhattan, it reminded me a lot of London in the sense that it was diverse, very hip, lots going on and had a very electric vibe, plus Sadeel encouraged me to take the Subway. It really gave me a sense of the real New York (an experience let me tell you!), and also popped in to see the Mimumaxi duo at their Pop up shop. Mimumaxi specialise in providing versatile and modest wear, and have a chic and trendy collection of ready to wear clothes. The girls were so hospitable and it was a pleasure to have met up with them! Sadeel kindly took most of the pictures as I hadn’t had a chance up until then.

I was also around for Black Friday and we decided to pay a visit to Woodbury Commons, just outside of Manhatta, and what a crazy experience! (I’ve never shopped at 1am before… ). The outlet is fantastic to do lots of shopping and make savings, and if you book to get there with most of the main tour operators you get further discounts.  I’m guilty of having done a lot of shopping (woops!) and my next post will be a haul of what I bought so watch out for the next post.

Have a great week!
