Lush Winter Specials- Alcohol-Free Range

By Samia — November 21, 2013

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love going past a Lush store. The smell is so distinct and has such a way of enticing you in, it’s hard to avoid!

I’ve been using Lush products on and off for a while, simply because there isn’t a store that’s conveniently close to me. So whenever I am near one, I usually buy a couple of hand creams and bath salts when I feel like pampering myself.

Lush have created a new division of their products especially for the Middle Eastern markets, and for countries in which alcohol sale is restricted. However due to popular demand, these products are now also available in the UK market, which is especially great if you want to take alcohol-free products to Saudi Arabia-should you perform Hajj or Umrah, Not only are these products alcohol-free but also preservative free and Vegan approved.

I was a bit wary as to whether the products would differ from their original counterparts as I had used them before, well… let’s see! Here are a few of my top picks from their Winter specials range.

Ocean Salt  (Facial scrub)

I am one of those people who has to make sure my face is properly exfoliated before I go to bed, otherwise it doesn’t feel clean enough. This product is not one for the faint hearted. It has an incredibly distinct smell to it which I don’t mind, and is quite refreshing. The salt is not harsh feeling in the slightest and a little does really go a long way. It is particularly good at making your skin feel super smooth once you have washed it off. I would recommend using this only 2-3 x a week.

Bauche De Noel (Facial cleanser)

My sister and I both tried this out, and we really liked the benefits of the ingredients it contains. At first glance the consistency is quite thick; you need to mix it with a little water to create a paste before applying it. It really smelt lush! I’m quite sceptical about what I apply to my face as it can break out easily, but this is quite organic in terms of the ingredients. It contains almonds and seaweed- although it’s a cleanser we used it like a face mask and it worked really well.

Ponche (Shower Gel)

This is a citrus based shower gel and I didn’t think much of it when I opened the package. The first time I used it all I could say was ‘wow’! It’s not too citrusy that it becomes sickening but the Davana oil and plum based notes make this really up-lifting. Its quite a therapeutic shower gel, especially if you want to shower just before bed and to help you sleep (I had trouble sleeping for a couple of days and this really helped).

Overall I can say I have become a Lush fan one again. In all honesty, it is not just because the products are alcohol-free (although this is a big bonus), but because of the natural benefits of the ingredients used, and the ethical way they are made. I try using the least amount of chemicals on my body and face and this seems like the most natural option. I personally could not tell the difference between the alcohol and alcohol-free products which is great, because you feel like you are using the exact product, and not missing out on any benefits. So all in all, a huge thumbs up from the Hijablicious team!
